Service Description
Hayfield and Mount Famine. Join us at Hayfield Bus Station , where we'll set off on our walk after a short warm up. We leave the bus station via Chapel Street and head up to the moorland around the back of Chinley Churn and ascend to the ridge for stunning 360* views before dropping down into Ottersbrook then head back up to the Penine Bridleway at the back of Mount Famine, crossing fields as we go. We then drop down a long gentle slope (mostly) to Hayfield with stunning views of Southhead and Kinder Scout, optional lunch at The George Hotel afterwards, there are also plenty of cafes in Hayfield too. Moderate pace with some hills. 9:30-13:00 Approx 10km 500m of ascent during the day with main climbs being at the start and approx 5km Dogs are not recommended for this walk due to the volume of Sheep, lambs, Cattle and calves not to mention ground nesting birds too, also there are 11 stiles with only 3 being easy access for pooches. There's no need to worry about navigation, where to park etc allowing you to take time to soak in the stunning views and enjoy great company. Led by a Hill and Moorland Leader who is Outdoor First Aid Trained and will support you along the way. Whilst we do understand that sometimes it is not possible to make a walk, please be aware that we do operate a no refund policy if you give us less than 24 hours’ notice. There are toilets at the car park, unfortunately the shop is now closed. Costs advertised on Derbyshire County Council Website are 3 hours - £3.50 or All day - £7. It was cash only last time I was there. Start location also served by the 358 Bus (There is limited on street parking which may be free, please park considerately if using this option)
