Railways and Canals

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

We met at The Railway, Rose Hill on a lovely sunny morning to walk along the Middlewood Way towards Higher Poynton. The Middlewood Way used to be a Railway Linking Marple and Macclesfield, it was re-opened in 1985 as leisure facility. Once at Poynton Station we left the Middlewood Way and joined the Macclesfield Canal, which was built so late in canal terms it was nearly a railway too!

We then headed back along the canal towards Marple, leaving the canal at The Ring of Bells we got a surprise view of Manchester before going down Church Lane and admiring the many different styles of architecture on the houses there. Once back at The Railway a welcome drink was had before going our separate ways.

13km and 45m height gain
